Maths is one subject where students can score full marks if they follow the right approach. Here are 5 strategies that have helped hundreds of my students score 90 and above.
1. Understand Concepts First, Memorise Later
Never try to memorise formulas without understanding where they come from. When you understand the concept, the formula stays in your memory automatically. Spend extra time on the "why" behind every theorem and formula.
2. Practice the Same Type of Problem 10 Times
Repetition builds confidence. When you encounter a new type of problem, solve at least 10 similar questions before moving on. This builds speed and accuracy which is crucial in exams.
3. Maintain a Mistakes Notebook
Keep a separate notebook only for mistakes. Every time you get a question wrong, write it down along with the correct solution. Revise this notebook 2 days before the exam. You will be surprised how much it helps.
4. Solve Previous Year Papers
The last 5 years of question papers are your best friends. CBSE and ICSE repeat similar patterns every year. Time yourself while solving — complete the paper in 2.5 hours, not 3.
5. Never Skip Steps in Solutions
Examiners give marks for each correct step, not just the final answer. Write every step clearly. Even if your final answer is wrong, you will still get step marks which can save 2-3 marks per question.
Follow these 5 habits consistently and you will definitely see your Maths marks improve dramatically. All the best!
